I was using the Emby app on my Samsung TV and was wondering why my TV shows folder was suddenly empty. I checked my phone app as well as the Emby server page on my computer. All empty. The folder for it on the Emby page still shows cover images of various shows that were in there, but clicking on it takes you to an empty page. What can I do to access all of the content that used to be in there? The drive that they're on is still working fine.
So I fully switched to Emby last week when Plex randomly decided to delete half my library.
I'm running on an Intel NUC and streaming to a TCL Roku TV over WiFi. It doesn't appear to be transcoding anything but sound is super quite. Are there any settings I can apply to remedy this?
I have a plex server that I run at home with about 4TB of movies etc. I run it to 3 fire sticks as well as remotely to my friends PS4 and my step dads fire stick. Plex is beginning to annoy me with the quality of their app, and now giving deals out only to new customers etc. Will Emby meet my needs? Is it as polished as Plex?
I have a zotac 1080 mini, and I am using emby on my desktop to stream movies at work. I mainly just listen to them at a lower quality using mxplayer. My question when I use gpu transcoding it is over 80% load. Is that safe to do for 8 hours at a time? or is there a better transcoding option for me since all I am doing is listening to the movie?
BTW I have a i7 6700k paired with it.
I just set up an Emby server on my NAS after being fed up with Plex. Everything went very smoothly, and I was actually able to get started using it via the Samsung TV app in under 10 minutes.
The problem is that I can't connect via the Android app, and I haven't been able to figure out why. I'm only using this via LAN, and every device on my network is able to use the web browser version of Emby without any issues. The Samsung TV app even works, and as a bonus, it was able to detect the NAS's IP address without me even needing to enter it.
All necessary ports used by Emby have been allowed through my NAS's firewall, and since I'm not even trying to connect via WAN, none of my local traffic goes through my restricted router firewall. Everything should have a direct connection.
I'm not really sure why I'm able to connect to Emby via the browser - even from the same Android phone I'm trying to use - and yet the Android app mysteriously will not work. When trying to connect from the Android app, I see an error that says "Connection failed. We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again."
It fails immediately too, so it's almost as if it's not attempting to connect at all. Has anyone encountered this before? Does anyone have any advice?
I have a large family and most just use the one device but how easy is it to hit this 15 device limit. Doesnt matter how may streams or users but if one user happens to logon with 15 devices then you have issues? trying to understand
Subscribed to Emby Premiere -- I thought I could download to my Raspberry Pi but I can only stream it. This is okay for home but for portable / on-the-go where I may not have wifi or internet access -- I'm shut out of my library.
I know I can download on my phone but I can't do it with Emby Theater on my PC or Raspberry Pi. There's no option for it. Unless I'm missing something? Is there an alternative way to download files when I DO get wifi and then watch them later on?
There are two series which are stuck as the first two items in my "Latest TV Shows" home screen category. One of which ended in 2009 and the other has not had a new episode since 5/19/2018. I've changed the "date added" metadata for both shows, but they persist. These shows were not added after everything else. This is after an initial scan of the entire library (new emby user). Content has since been added and yet they persist. What am I missing? How can I edit these shows so they aren't stuck at the front of latest tv shows?
One thing that helps me decide which TV shows to hang on to (and sometimes movies) is to see how often or how recently it has been watched.
Statistics gets close but only per-user, which since I have quite a few, going through each user one at a time it not feasible. Playback Reporting is kind of limited in that it will only show the last thing a user watched in the given time frame.
Reports may be my only hope but both in Chrome and Edge the damn plugin doesn't view correctly in the browser. The drop downs are not even able to be selected.
How can I simply look at a particular title and see what it's watch history is?
I'm considering a switch from Plex, where I'm used to every TV and movie folder containing a poster.jpg and fanart.jpg.
Poster obviously being for the movie/show, and the fanart being used as a background in the UI, and shown while loading the video. In the season folders for shows I also had seasonXX.jpg.
Am I correct in assuming that Emby stores all posters in the main folder, and the following order?
poster.jpg - main poster
seasonXX.jpg - season poster
logo.jpg - shown in the show info
landscape.jpg - shown in the dashboard
Not sure where clearart.jpg and banner.jpg are used, maybe other clients than the web UI?
Not sure if Emby uses fanart.jpg at all? Saw a glimpse of it when playing an episode, but not sure.
Assuming all content has these things, should Emby import it, or will it try to download new ones?
I have Emby set up with a command line podcatcher so I can keep my listening tracked regardless of the device. Does emby have a way to schedule a sync job so every night at,say, midnight it would sync Podcasts to my iPhone for offline listening?
So I got some movies in 720p but also 1080p. When this happens in Plex you can only see one single movie poster with a 2 in the upper right corner of the poster, which indicates that you have 2 files for that movie.
However in Emby it just shows one poster per movie file? Is there any way to have it being displayed as Plex does?
Hi. I've recently installed the Emby server on my computer.
I've added some DVDs to my library on Emby.
When I play back the files, I noticed they play in the browser. I also noticed that the image quality isn't as good as if I were to access the files directly in Kodi, for example.
I'm thinking that playing back the files in the Web Browser limits the quality of the video; is this a correct assessment?
Assuming that Emby is transcoding to playback the DVDs in the Web Browser, is there a client for Windows 10 in which transcoding doesn't occur?
I have Emby running on docker on my Linux box.
Last night I noticed nothing was recording. I looked in the log and saw the following relating to the recording.
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException at Emby.Server.Implementations.LiveTv.EmbyTV.EmbyTV.RecordStream(TimerInfo timer, DateTime recordingEndDate, ActiveRecordingInfo activeRecordingInfo)
Is that a problem I can fix?
[Edit: I restarted the server from the dashboard and all works now]
I've been testing Emby out in a Virtual Machine, and I've been beyond impressed so far (coming from Plex). I want to move it to a dedicated box, and had a question on CPU. I see Emby supports hardware decoding for both AMD and Intel. If this is the case, is there any benefit to buying an Intel CPU? I'm interested in trying out an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X. Any issue sending 4K content to a Shield TV with this?
New to Emby coming from Plex, and noticed one of my movies was no where to be found. I finally fixed it by a slight change in the folder name, but before that, I could not find the item at all, even in Folder view, but I knew the filename.
Along those lines, there was a plugin that would show me kind of an export of the movies by folder it found and made it easy to audit what Plex found vs. what was in my file system... anything similar in Emby?
Hi guys, I've been given the suggestion to switch over to emby from plex multiple times after seeing them turn their interests from actual media streaming to web services. I have no interest in web shows or podcasts and I just want streaming done right on my clients. My biggest gripe has been with Android and Android TV clients, can someone chime in on the experience they've had on those specific emby clients?
See my post on the plex sub here for more details
I'd be installing the emby server on my unraid server via docker container if that matters.
I'm starting off with the free version to see how I like it. Wish I hadn't paid for plex pass, basically paid for features I don't want in the first place.
Has anyone else come into this issue, every time my home internet goes down, my ubuntu server comes back online but emby server becomes unreachable. So the best way to explain it, is my system will turn off the ssh and close out all the ports, or it will forget how to send to my port for my domain, or this one was the kicker from the other night, it completely forgot how what ip address was assig to it. To be fair this has happened on centos and ubuntu. I'm not entirely sure what is happening,I do have ryzen chip in it but I don't think that would be causing it.
Update, it's was the pci card for esata died. Plugged in via USB 3.0 for now and it's working till I can order a new one.
