FireFox just crashed with 2 minutes to go on a 2 hour download. Restart and the entire download starts over from byte zero. Why, in this day and age, don't downloads properly resume?
If FireFox crashed, the loss of state information was likely on your side. FireFox may not know what range of bytes is safe to ask for.
You know what I hate? When the first post is concise, useful and factually correct. The fun ends so quickly.
You know what I hate? When the second post is boring, non-useful and and has no jokes. The fun ends so quickly.
This is correct. Firefox very rarely manages to resume a download properly.
Try using a download accelerator, or even wget. These tend to handle the situation a bit better.
It's 2010. Why the hell doesn't FireFox properly support resume?
No browser seems to handle resume properly. I have no idea why, since I've been using reliable download managers for at least 15 years.
Why in this day and age does it take you 2 hours to download firefox?
I wasn't downloading FireFox, LOL.
Regardless, you should get a 'modern' internet connection and/or use something other than http.
What makes you think they weren't using a modern internet connection?
Also, http is perfectly fine for downloading large files
DownThemAll can properly resume and is a download accelerator. I highly recommend it.
I have it... I just don't always use it. I guess I should start.
